Evian (France), 16 June (LaPresse) – A ‘playlist’ put together with some care, a specific song for each leader, with a touch of irony. Emmanuel Macron posted images on social media of the official welcome given to the heads of state and government attending the G7 in Evian, which took place last night at the Hotel Royal. And the French president has paired a track with each clip: for Donald Trump he chose ‘Love is a long road’ by Tom Petty, whilst for Giorgia Meloni it was ‘Felicità’ by Al Bano and Romina. As the backdrop to the handshake with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, we have Namika’s track ‘Lieblingsmensch’ (meaning ‘favourite person’). For Japan’s Sanae Takaichi, the choice was ‘Arigato’ by Nxnja Beats, whilst for Canada’s Mark Carney, the selection fell on Celine Dion’s ‘J’irai où tu iras’ (I’ll go where you go). Rounding off the list are ‘The World Is Not Enough’, the James Bond soundtrack, associated with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and ‘Ode to Joy’ for EU leaders Ursula von der Leyen (President of the European Commission) and Antonio Costa (President of the European Council). On the subject of music, today’s G7 proceedings will conclude with a performance preceding the gala dinner hosted by Macron and his wife in honour of the leaders and their respective spouses.
