Caracas (Venezuela), 25 June (LaPresse) – Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, has updated the death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck the country, reporting that there are at least 164 dead and 971 injured. Previously, Rodríguez herself had reported at least 32 dead and 700 injured. The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, are among the strongest to have struck Venezuela in over a century and were felt throughout the region. In some places, even in distant areas such as the Brazilian Amazon – some 1,700 kilometres from the Venezuelan capital, Caracas – buildings were evacuated.
