This is according to data from the Daily Mortality Monitoring System (MoMo) of the Carlos III Health Institute. The deadliest day was 25 June with 120 deaths, followed by 26 June with 115 deaths. This was the June with the highest number of heat-related deaths, exceeding the figures for 2017 (1,000) and 2022 (828), as noted by the public broadcaster RTVE. The tally includes people who died from heatstroke and those with pre-existing conditions that were exacerbated by the high temperatures. According to preliminary data, the month that has just ended was the second-hottest June on record, dating back to 1961.
