Tehran (Iran), July 3 (LaPresse/AP) — “They must know that the pure blood of our martyred imam will mark another turning point in the victories of our beloved Islam on the world stage.” This was stated by the head of the Revolutionary Guards, General Ahmad Vahidi, speaking on Iranian state television. “They will take with them to the grave their desire to see this nation surrender. This nation will rise higher and higher day by day thanks to this pure blood,” he added. Vahidi appeared in public for the first time in months. Photos published online by Iranian state media show the general attending a meeting regarding Khamenei’s funeral, and then sitting next to his casket during a more intimate ceremony held in Khamenei’s honor on Thursday evening near the Supreme Leader’s former residence in central Tehran. Vahidi had not appeared in public since February 8, weeks before the start of the war in Iran. According to experts, Vahidi has become a leading figure in shaping Iran’s hardline stance in negotiations for a possible definitive end to the war with the United States. Vahidi is believed to be part of a small inner circle in direct contact with the young Khamenei.
