Rome, 23 Aug. (LaPresse) – Tehran is reported to have received an invitation to join the Mecca Pact, and the matter is “under consideration”. This was stated by Mehdi Rahimi, head of the Iranian Parliament’s press agency, to the Lebanese television channel Al Mayadeen. The official added that the creation of a “regional security umbrella”, which Iran has long been pursuing, would represent a victory for the Islamic Republic. The Mecca Agreement was signed on 7 August by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. It stipulates that an attack on any of the signatory countries will be considered an act of aggression against all members of the coalition.
