FdI bill: ‘Stop full veils in public places, fines up to €3,000’

Rome, 8 October (LaPresse) – “FdI presents a bill against Islamic separatism, i.e. the creation of counter-societies where the rules of the legal system do not apply, but Sharia law is essentially applied. Unfortunately, we have witnessed numerous phenomena of this type, even in Italy. It is a bill that will essentially regulate funding for mosques and prevent and prohibit the use of full veils. It also insists on legislation against forced marriages. In Italy, our laws are applied, which are based on a specific set of values.” This was stated by FdI Immigration Manager Sara Kelany at the press conference presenting the FdI bill “against Islamic separatism”. The press conference was attended by Fdi leader in the Chamber of Deputies Galeazzo Bignami, FdI programme manager Francesco Filini and Undersecretary for Justice Andrea Delmastro. The proposal consists of five articles. The fifth article provides for a ban on wearing the full veil. “The use of clothing that covers the face, masks or any other means of making it difficult to recognise a person is prohibited in public places, places open to the public, educational establishments of any kind, universities, commercial establishments and offices,” reads Article 5 of the bill. Violation of the prohibition provided for in paragraph 1 is punishable by an administrative fine of between €300 and €3,000′.
