Kiev (Ukraine), 11 Nov. (LaPresse/AP) – Ukrainian nuclear energy company Energoatom has stated that its activities have not been affected by the major investigation into a corruption case in the country’s energy sector, which centres on alleged bribes worth around $100 million. Energoatom, a state-owned company that generates more than half of Ukraine’s energy supply, said in a statement that the investigation conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau has not compromised production or operational safety. Anti-corruption investigators allege that Energoatom’s suppliers were forced to pay bribes, amounting to 10-15% of the value of contracts, in order to continue providing services and goods to the company. They also suspect that several high-ranking officials exploited their relationships to ‘maintain control over personnel decisions, procurement processes and the flow of financial resources’ in order to manage the bribery system.
