Budget: Schlein, the worst in decades, Meloni champion of inconsistency

Milan, 20 December (LaPresse) – “A terrible manoeuvre, the worst in decades in terms of the quality of the choices and parliamentary coercion. And with a final blow, the government finds some extra resources by cashing in on the pensions of Italians, of those who have worked and made sacrifices all their lives. Once again, it will be the usual suspects who foot the bill: pensioners and employees. Meanwhile, the manoeuvre helps the richest the most, giving an extra €440 per year to those who earn €199,000.‘ So says PD secretary Elly Schlein. ’Zero growth, no vision for economic recovery, completely insufficient resources for healthcare and transport. Cuts to schools, poverty and cinema. Together with the other opposition parties, we stopped them from attempting to steal the degree redemption and today also from granting amnesty. But the fact remains that this Meloni government manoeuvre increases the retirement age for 96% of workers, including law enforcement officers. They were supposed to be the ones who would abolish the Fornero law and bring minimum pensions to €1,000: they have spectacularly contradicted themselves. They argued about everything to the point of forcing Giorgetti to withdraw and rewrite amendments until the last minute and bring the country to within 24 hours of provisional administration. This means only one thing: the government is in total chaos, Meloni is tearing up her promises and is the champion of inconsistency,’ he concludes.
