Rome, restorer: “Resemblance to Meloni? You’re making it up, I don’t notice it”

Rome, Jan. 31 (LaPresse) – The resemblance to the face of the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni? “You’re making it up. I don’t notice any resemblance, I just restored what was there before, and that’s it.” This was stated by Bruno Valentinetti, the restorer of the fresco in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Lucina in Rome, when asked by LaPresse about the similarity of the angel to the Prime Minister’s face.

“I am the one who did the restoration, and the work was completed a few months ago. What you see, however, was also there 25 years ago because I restored a 25-year-old work. Do you know what restoration means? It means recreating what was there before, so 25 years ago there was what you see today,” he added, assuring that “there has always been the approval of the Superintendence because the parish priest of the Basilica communicated and showed my resume.”

“Everyone sees what they want. If you’re happy, go ahead. It’s the face of an angel. Did I take inspiration from living people? No, they’re all dead,” he added. “I derived the design from the trace that was there before. Resemblance to Giorgia Meloni? Other names have been suggested. Some even say the other angel is Conte,” he said, laughing.
