Brussels, 4 April (LaPresse) – Iran has executed two men convicted of belonging to an outlawed opposition group and of carrying out subversive acts aimed at overthrowing the Islamic Republic, according to Iranian media reports. The men were Abolhassan Montazer and Vahid Bani-Amerian. They had been sentenced to death in December 2024 along with four others on charges of ‘armed rebellion’ linked to the exiled opposition group, the People’s Mujahedin Organisation (MEK). According to human rights organisations, which had mobilised in recent days, the two opposition figures were reportedly subjected to brutal torture to extract confessions. The execution comes after their sentences were upheld by the Supreme Court. Saturday’s executions are the latest in a series targeting members of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (MEK), following the execution earlier this week of four other members of the group who had been sentenced to death.
