Paris-Roubaix, Mathieu van der Poel triumphs

Rome, 13 Apr (LaPresse) – Mathieu van der Poel triumphs for the third consecutive time at Paris-Roubaix (as Francesco Moser) and enters by right in the myth of the most iconic monumental race of cycling. After winning in 2023 and 2024, the Dutch star took his third victory, beating his most formidable rival, Tadej Pogacar, who was making his Roubaix debut, by more than a minute and had to settle for second place. The turning point just under 40 kilometres from the finish with the two breakaway giants. Betrayed by a bend, the Slovenian ended up wide and in the mud, the Dutchman took advantage of this, gathering a sufficient advantage to keep Pogacar at a distance, who attempted an impossible comeback, also because van der Poel accelerated and stretched out, crossing the finish line with 1‘’17 on Pogacar. Pedersen finished third ahead of Van Aert and Vermeersch. With this success Van der Poel won his eighth monument of his career, levelling the account with Pogacar. The two riders have won 16 of the last 27 monument races.
