London (United Kingdom), 20 April (LaPresse/AP) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stated that he would not have appointed Peter Mandelson as the UK’s ambassador to Washington had he been aware that he had failed his security vetting. Starmer told Parliament that he had not been informed of the failure to pass the vetting process before Mandelson took up the post. Mandelson was removed from his post due to his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein. The fact that Mandelson had failed his security checks, the Prime Minister added, “could and should have been brought to my attention before he took up the post”. Starmer had previously acknowledged that he had made an error of judgement in appointing Mandelson.
