Rome, 18 May (LaPresse) – The updated proposal put forward by Iran for an agreement to end the war is considered by the White House to be insufficient to reach a deal. This is reported by Axios, citing a senior US official and a source familiar with the matter. According to Axios, US officials say that President Trump wants a deal to end the war, but is considering whether to resume negotiations, due to Iran’s rejection of many of his demands and its reluctance to make significant concessions on its nuclear programme. Trump is expected to convene his national security team in the Situation Room tomorrow to discuss military options, according to two US officials. The senior US official interviewed by Axios stated that if Iran does not change its position, the US will have to continue negotiations ‘with bombs’.
