Rome, 19 May (LaPresse) – “Yesterday the divers were able to locate the four bodies and today we are beginning the recovery. The mission is moving on to the next phase; we will try to bring two of the four divers to the surface.” This was stated to Rainews 24 by Mohammed Hussain Sharif, spokesperson for the Maldivian government. “We are ready to begin this phase,” added Sharif, who then explained how the operations would unfold. “As you know, when they were found, the bodies were all together and were located in the third section of the cave,” he said. “The plan is to work with the Finnish divers, the coastguard and the police to bring them to the surface. At that point, the coastguard divers will bring them from 30 metres to 7 metres, and after this stage, the final operations will take place and they will be brought completely to the surface.”
