Washington (USA), June 3 (LaPresse) – In the race for governor of California, former Health Secretary in the Biden administration, Democrat Xavier Becerra, is in a favourable position (25.5%) to secure one of the two spots available in the November election. Becerra is competing for first place with former Fox News host, Republican Steve Hilton (27.6%), while Democratic billionaire and investor Tom Steyer is third (19.6%). These are the early results from the primaries held not only in California but also in five other US states (Iowa, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico and South Dakota). Many California results will still take time to be finalised due to late polling station closures and slow vote counting. In the Los Angeles mayoral primary, incumbent candidate Karen Bass leads with 36.4%, ahead of Republican Spencer Pratt, former reality TV star from The Hills (29.1%), while progressive city councillor Nithya Raman follows (21.6%).
