He wrote this in a telegram of condolence sent on behalf of Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin. The Pope “sends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims, together with the assurance of his spiritual closeness to those affected by this tragedy. He also offers prayers for the emergency personnel involved in the ongoing rescue operations and invokes divine help and protection”, the telegram reads.
