Brussels, 15 Oct. (LaPresse) – Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni raised the issue of flexibility at the European Council. According to Italian sources, the Prime Minister put forward this issue as set out in the letter she sent earlier this month to the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. At the meeting, Meloni was “openly” supported by the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who had made a similar request to the European Commission. According to the sources, the Prime Minister pointed out that in emergency situations, where an external factor intervenes to drive up inflation and costs, the rules of the Stability Pact would allow for these to be considered as relevant factors, thereby granting further budgetary flexibility.
