Frankfurt (Germany), 17 Oct. (LaPresse) – At least seven people have died and around 90 have been injured in Russian attacks on Ukraine over the past 24 hours. This has been reported by Ukrainian regional authorities, as cited by the Kyiv Independent. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian forces launched 332 drones overnight, including jet-powered attack drones, as well as Iskander-M ballistic missiles and North Korean-made KN-23 missiles. Ukrainian air defences shot down or neutralised 289 drones. Impacts were recorded in 22 locations, whilst debris from the intercepted drones fell in a further three areas. In the Kharkiv region, two people died – a 58-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman – whilst a further 41 were injured or suffered stress-related effects, including three children. In the Sumy region, seven people were injured in drone attacks. In the Dnipropetrovsk region, a 74-year-old woman was killed and two men were injured in shelling near Nikopol. Another man died in Dnipro in an attack on an industrial plant. The raids also targeted energy infrastructure in various regions of the country, causing power cuts to some homes. This was reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, whilst Russian attacks on the country’s energy grid continue ahead of winter.
