Rome, 20 Oct. (LaPresse) – “Accidents and deaths at work represent one of the most serious emergencies facing our country. Against this backdrop, the conference commencing today offers an opportunity to examine the critical issues within the system and explore possible strategies for action. Every tragedy leaves a deep mark on families and communities, forever deprived of a part of themselves. All too often, cost-cutting and operational haste take precedence over the protection of people, especially in the most exposed sectors, where the fragmentation of contracts and subcontracts can compromise compliance with regulations and a clear allocation of responsibilities. Combating these phenomena requires rigorous checks, adequate training and a culture of safety permeating the entire production chain, including by making the most of the opportunities offered by new technologies.” So said the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in his message sent to mark the opening of the General Assembly on Health and Safety at Work, which was read out at the start of proceedings by Chiara Gribaudo, Chair of the Committee of Inquiry into Working Conditions in Italy.
