Rome, 28 Oct. (LaPresse) – “Today, the whole of Spain is in mourning”, “our top priority is the victims” and “support for their families”, whilst “our second priority is to shed light on what happened” and “why this tragedy occurred”. This was stated by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in remarks to the press from the command centre in Los Yébenes, in the province of Toledo, where this morning’s serious rail accident took place. Two high-speed trains collided, causing at least 68 deaths and dozens of injuries, some of them serious. “We will get to the bottom of this: if there has been negligence, it will come to light, and if there have been failings in the safety system, we will take the strongest possible action, because it is clear that we have suffered two terrible high-speed rail tragedies in the same year,” added the Spanish Prime Minister.
