Rome, Nov. 2 (LaPresse) – “We’ve said everything by now, it’s wonderful, we’re very happy. I haven’t read the newspapers; it’s not easy to follow publications from all over the world here in Mexico, but there has certainly been a lot of media coverage. An invitation from the President of the Republic? We’ll return to Italy after the Brazilian Grand Prix, and we would be very honoured.” Marco Antonelli, Kimi’s father, told LaPresse the day after the Bologna-born driver’s triumph, as his third-place finish at the Mexican Grand Prix earned him the world championship title at the age of 20. “I want to clarify something: I read that some people interpreted things as meaning that we, as parents, spend his money, but that is absolutely not true. His money is his, and he puts it aside. We have an agreement whereby he receives a salary appropriate for someone who travels around the world, taking into account the expenses he has to cover while travelling. It’s not a millionaire’s allowance, but one suited to a 20-year-old who travels,” Antonelli senior then clarified. “The money is his, and we absolutely do not touch it. We don’t even ask him to pay for our restaurant meals. As a father, I cannot accept the idea of my son paying for me, let alone imagine us touching his money. Many people have written these things, and the thought of that would be devastating to me. So, as I said, it is an allowance suited to someone who travels around the world, but nothing extraordinary, because he has no extravagant demands. It certainly cannot be the 1,500 euros a young person with an ordinary job might receive; it is a higher allowance, but nothing outrageous or typical of a spoilt rich kid. Nobody touches his money.”
