Rome, Nov. 6 (LaPresse) – “A comment on the US midterm elections? I am not a member of the American political scene, and I do not believe I need to say anything more than what I have already said. We obviously respect what was decided in free and sovereign elections, and I do not like interfering in other people’s affairs. And I am not saying this specifically about the US elections; I have said it on every occasion when I have been asked to comment on elections in other countries”. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said this in a brief press statement upon her arrival at Veronafiere for a visit to Fieracavalli. “What I would reiterate, and what matters to us, is that, as far as I am concerned, absolutely nothing changes in our relations with the Americans”, the Prime Minister stressed. “Because my approach towards the United States has never changed over these years, regardless of who was governing the United States or who was serving as President of the United States. I do not take a partisan, cheerleading approach to foreign policy; I leave that to others. Obviously, I can congratulate the winner, although that is not the case here because the president is the same. In other cases, however, when a president or someone else wins, I offer my congratulations, as everyone does. I am a head of government, and it is normal for me to do so, regardless of what I may think”. “But I tend not to interfere in other countries’ politics”, Meloni reiterated, “because I have seen it done against me, and I do not like it.
