Rome, 19 June (LaPresse) – “I have always been a ‘papist’ and for that I thank the Lord and my teachers, in particular the professors at the Gregorian University. After John Paul II, I worked alongside Benedict XVI for three years and I thank him with all my heart, not least for the affection he still shows me. When Pope Francis was elected, I rejoiced and, as far as I was able, immediately became one of his supporters. Even today I rejoice and thank him for his extraordinary zeal for evangelisation. I must confess, however, that I find myself in a state of unease, certainly not for personal reasons but because I struggle to understand certain approaches which seem to me to reopen wounds that had barely healed since the Council. I humbly ask the Lord to convince me deep down that the Church is His and that He Himself cares for her, beyond our human perspectives.” This is what we read in a passage from the spiritual testament of Cardinal Camillo Ruini, who died on Tuesday, published by SIR.
