Rome, 10 October (LaPresse) – “After consulting with President Giorgia Meloni and Minister Tajani, and following an assessment of the security conditions carried out by the Joint Forces Operational Command, I have authorised the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Portolano, to order the resumption of Italian activities within the EUBAM Rafah mission, in which Carabinieri personnel are participating, for the reopening of the crossing in the same manner as on 25 January, in coordination with the Foreign Ministry. On 14 October 2025, in accordance with the Trump agreement and in coordination between the European Union and the parties, the Rafah crossing will be opened alternately in two directions: outbound towards Egypt and inbound towards Gaza’. This was stated by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto in a note. On Sunday 12 October, he added, operations will begin to release Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. The Israelis are working to restore the logistical functionality of the crossing infrastructure as quickly as possible. Approximately 600 articulated lorries carrying humanitarian aid will enter Gaza each day via other crossings, not Rafah. The passage of personnel will not be limited to serious medical cases, but will be extended to anyone who wishes to cross (subject to the agreement of Israel and Egypt).
