Rome, 25 Oct. (LaPresse) – “Yesterday, many, many young people took to the streets peacefully to assert their right to play a leading role in shaping a better future. And these young people are not just our future; they are already our present. And it is today that we must succeed in listening to that demand, and also in making it our own.” This was stated by Democratic Party secretary Elly Schlein whilst speaking in Montepulciano at the ‘Pronti per l’alternativa’ event. “The truth is that in some cases, and only in certain cities, there were clashes – some of them serious – but there was no looting. Above all, there was none of the widespread guerrilla-style unrest that some had expected or even hoped to see. The strongest response, however, was democracy itself. It was in Milan, where, unlike last week, there was a peaceful march involving more than 10,000 people,” she emphasised.
