Milan, Jun. 20 (LaPresse) – Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia won the Sprint race of the Czech Republic Grand Prix at the historic Brno circuit. The Ducati rider crossed the finish line ahead of Japanese rider Ai Ogura, on the Aprilia Trackhouse, who started from pole position. Third place went to the other factory Ducati of Marc Marquez. Championship leader Marco Bezzecchi crashed on his Aprilia while running in fifth position. Taking advantage of Bezzecchi’s crash were, among others, his teammate Jorge Martin, who finished fifth behind Fabio Di Giannantonio on a Ducati from the VR46 Team. Also worth noting is a strong seventh place for Enea Bastianini on a KTM, while Franco Morbidelli finished 12th on the other VR46 Ducati. In addition to Bezzecchi, others who crashed included Spaniard Pedro Acosta on a KTM and Luca Marini on a Honda. A resurgent Bagnaia made a quick start to surprise pole-sitter Ogura, who benefited from a soft tyre. The Italian then tried to build a gap, which he managed to defend in the final stages from the desperate attack of the Japanese Aprilia rider. Marquez, meanwhile, had to settle for a midfield race but still secured a valuable podium. In the championship standings, Bezzecchi still leads with 180 points, followed by Martin with 165 and Di Giannantonio with 144. The main race is scheduled for tomorrow.
