Madrid (Spain), 23 June (LaPresse) – Podemos has been saying this for some time now: according to the party, the parliamentary term is over, and now, with the sentencing of former Transport Minister José Luis Abalos – once Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s right-hand man – to 24 years in prison, the final blow has been dealt. “The verdict is final,” said Podemos leader Ione Belarra at a press conference in the Congress of Deputies, as reported by elDiario.es. Despite questions from journalists, Belarra refrained from explicitly calling for snap elections or Sánchez’s resignation. However, regarding the latter, she said that in politics “it is not enough simply to be able to hold out; one must also have dignity and ethics”. The general secretary of Podemos argued that the parliamentary term is over and that, “in effect”, Spain is already in the midst of an election campaign.
