Rome, Jun. 27 (LaPresse) – “There will be more than 100 Italian operators who from today will be on Venezuelan territory,” Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Uno Mattina Weekly. The head of the Farnesina explained that these are operators “experts in the search for people who remain under the rubble.” “They have already worked in Turkey and Syria during the earthquake two years ago, and this shows there is great experience,” Tajani underlined. “Tonight the first team sent by Italy arrived, the first plane landed at an airport near Caracas, our Fire Brigade, Crisis Unit and Civil Protection are already at work. A second plane with additional personnel experienced in rescue operations, experts in earthquake-affected areas, will arrive today. In addition, we have already arranged the first financial aid, but we are ready to do much more than we have done so far,” the Foreign Minister added. As for financial aid, “we provided it to Caritas. We are also working on this aspect; after an initial action we have already allocated 10 million euros, more will come, speaking with the Venezuelan authorities to understand what is needed, because they are still in the search phase, so they need experienced people who can work with teams from other countries and know how to coordinate. Our Civil Protection, as you know, is a flagship of the entire European Union,” the minister said. “We also have our Ministry Crisis Unit, which is highly experienced in these operations,” he concluded.
