Turin, 15 July (LaPresse) – “The bill on the right to assisted dying has been passed. On such an intimate and serious matter, concerning life, suffering and dignity, there was only one possible approach: to take the time to listen, engage in dialogue and hold a debate.” French President Emmanuel Macron wrote this on X. “In 2022, I committed to paving this way together with the French people. With seriousness, humility and in full respect for our democracy, this commitment has been honoured. Appeals to the Constitutional Council will follow their course in accordance with the principles of our rule of law,” he explained. “Thank you to all the MPs who made a constructive and respectful debate possible. “I would also like to pay tribute to all those who took part in this collective reflection: citizens, healthcare professionals and organisations. The work of the National Consultative Ethics Committee has guided our deliberations. I would like to thank it once again,” she continued. “My thoughts go out to all those people who have approached me personally, who have shared their stories, their doubts, their convictions and their hopes. Their testimonies have greatly enriched this text,” she concluded.
