Rome, 27 February (LaPresse) – “There are audio recordings of magistrates in Trani threatening witnesses violently so that they will give false testimony and allow them to arrest an innocent person. If such a serious act were committed by any other person, in any profession or position or responsibility, from the highest office of the state down, Parliament would explode, the newspapers would attack for days, those responsible would be subjected to heavy media and public criticism, they would be removed from office or would resign in shame. In this case, as in many others, none of this will happen. At most, there will be a mild disciplinary sanction that will not prevent any of them from continuing their work with the same methods, if they so choose. Because these are not ordinary citizens like the rest of us. These are people who know they have no one to answer to for their actions. Even when they cry out for vengeance before God and man.” This was written in X by the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, commenting on the case of the Trani prosecutor’s office published by “Il Foglio”. “Unfortunately, even this reform will not give us the certainty that things like this will not happen,” adds Crosetto, referring to the reform on the separation of careers that will be the subject of a referendum on 22 and 23 March. ‘Even if 99.99% of voters vote YES. However, it will give us a little more hope of obtaining justice, sooner or later. Because with the separation of careers, it will be easier for a third judge to preserve the truth and seek justice. And because a non-politicised CSM will choose the best people to fill positions of responsibility.” “It’s a certainty. No, it’s a hope. But it’s better to light a match than to continue cursing the darkness,” concludes the minister.
