Atlanta (Georgia, USA), 8 July (LaPresse/AP) – “We played better than the defending champions. We were the better side in every respect, except for the result.” This was stated by Egypt’s manager Hossam Hassan following his team’s defeat by Argentina. Hassan said he would not be watching any further matches in this World Cup, believing that his team should have been awarded a penalty before Argentina launched a counter-attack to score the winning goal, making the final score 3–2. “I’m not convinced by this result. I’m not convinced by how things unfolded during this match,” he said. “I don’t want to try and sugar-coat it with fine words or well-chosen phrases, saying ‘what bad luck’ and so on. Today we were treated unfairly. We suffered an injustice.”
