(LaPresse) – Spain’s Minister for Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, who is also in charge of the unified command centre for emergency management in Ceuta, stated that the government is working to repatriate all migrants who entered the exclave at the end of July, whilst ensuring compliance with the law, and argued that immediate repatriations cannot be carried out, contrary to the opposition’s demands. “It is a lie” to claim that all migrants who entered Ceuta can be “returned against their will immediately, overnight”, said Torres during a hearing before the Joint Committee on National Security at the Congress of Deputies. Torres recalled the events of 2021, when minors were repatriated from Ceuta under an agreement with the Kingdom of Morocco and “two people were convicted”: the Spanish government’s delegate in the city and the vice-president of the Ceuta government. “There is a precedent and, from a legal point of view, there is established case law. Therefore, we are doing things as they should be done,” the minister concluded.
