Rome, 5 July (LaPresse) – Russian hackers are reported to have infiltrated the email accounts of British government officials and Foreign Office staff abroad, in a serious breach of national security. This is according to The Telegraph. A list of compromised accounts seen by the British newspaper reveals that the login credentials of British Foreign Office staff abroad and local government officials across the UK have been exposed. The breach involved email addresses and corresponding passwords, giving hackers – and anyone willing to pay them – the potential to infiltrate sensitive systems in Whitehall. On dark web forums, access to these credentials is being offered at prices of up to $60,000. Among the compromised accounts are those of IT staff at British embassies in Thailand and Mauritius, as well as staff at the embassies in Derbyshire and Waltham Forest, in east London.
