Turin, 5 July (LaPresse) – Ferrari triumphs at Silverstone. Charles Leclerc won the Formula 1 British Grand Prix ahead of George Russell’s Mercedes and his team-mate Lewis Hamilton, who completed the podium. The race was marked by technical problems affecting Kimi Antonelli’s Mercedes; he was in second place but poised to challenge the Monegasque driver, having a ‘fresher’ set of tyres at his disposal, with around ten laps to go. The World Championship leader was thus forced to make two pit stops, finishing ninth at the chequered flag but outside the points due to a penalty for track limits at the very moment he was experiencing the most difficulty with his car. In the closing stages, there was another twist: Max Verstappen, who had been comfortably in third place, ended up in the gravel with his Red Bull and was forced to retire. The race thus ended under the safety car, with Hamilton – having pitted to fit a soft tyre – losing second place to Russell, who had climbed from fourth to second. For Leclerc, this marks his ninth career victory in Formula 1, his first ever at Silverstone.
